We will be in Chicago on July 2nd and 3rd for my son, who is competing in the US Olympic Taekwondo National Championships. We are staying at the Hyatt beside the venue at McCormick place and I know he wants to see Sears/Willis Tower. Any suggestions for a meal that will please adults and kids that won't break the bank? We're willing to take a taxi, as long as it's not too far.

How old is your son and why do you differentiate between adults/kids? Adventurousness of cuisine? Chinatown is a quick cab ride from McCormick place. Lou Malnati's is also nearby if you've never tried Chicago style deep dish pizza.

McCormick Place is three miles south of the Loop, Chicago's commercial and historical downtown, where Willis Tower is located.

There isn't much dining in the immediate vicinity of McCormick Place. Chinatown is about 3/4 mile west.

I agree with ferret's suggestion that our local specialty, deep-dish pizza, is a great choice. Lou Malnati's location at 8th and State is about two thirds of the way from McCormick to the Loop. Pizano's on Madison is on the other side of the Loop (about 3/4 mile east) and is close to Millennium Park and the Art Institute (our biggest, most famous art museum).

      Good luck at the championships!

My son is 8, so he's not an adventurous eater. I know we will try pizza.

The Willis Tower is in the business district which is dominated by fast food type places and mediocre sit-down options, very few of which would be worth visiting. Another thought is the French Market, a 10-15 minute walk from Willis which is sort of a mall of food options (more of a mega food court) many of which will appeal to an 8 year old. It's all food stands with a common seating area.

Or you can hit Greek Town, also about a 10-15 minute walk.

These additional suggestions from ferret are excellent. For more info:

Incidentally, another variation on our deep-dish pizza is the double-crust "stuffed" pizza. If you'd like to try it, Giordano's has a location on West Jackson right across the street from Willis Tower.
