Everything is Trokay in Truckee

Wow! Trokay opened within the last year in Truckee and is the most exciting and innovative restaurant in the Reno Tahoe area. The cuisine is modernist with some molecular thrown in. There are 2 prix fixe options or it’s possible to order a la carte. The prix fixe options require the whole table to partake so the 4 of us decided to order off the menu.

I don’t have the patience to describe in loving detail all the dishes we sampled. There wasn’t that was less than excellent. The descriptions are pretty long and you can check them out on the website. Our starters were 63° egg yolk and white asparagus, roasted bone marrow, baby heirloom beets and chevre, braised veal cheeks, and octopus with white beans. Entrees were soft shell crab, deep fried saddle of rabbit, rack of wild boar, and seared diver scallops. As I mentioned, look at the actual dishes on their website. We were pretty full and shared a dessert of donuts with blue bottle coffee frozen latte and salted caramel powder. Portions were generous and some gratis nibbles were offered a few times during the meal. The wine list is very interesting. Service is friendly and professional.
