Miller's Near and Far on Rivington
Anyone else been yet?
Went last night around 7:30... Great space, only about 40 seats, but beautifully designed with an awesome open kitchen. They were almost empty, but our server said they had a reserved party of 14 coming in later.
The chef de cuisine is originally from Northern Spy and the food is "seasonal American".
We had the chicken wings (Sichuan peppercorn, scallion, cilantro), crispy marscapone gnocchi (cherry tomato emulsion, fennel, torn basil, pecorino), the burger (two LaFrieda patties, American cheese, lettuce, pickled red onion and fries), and the cracked wheat risotto (wild mushrooms, market asparagus, creme fraiche, parmesan).
The chicken wings were out of this world. My SO, who typically doesn't like Sichuan peppercorn, loved it on these. They were piping hot and incredibly moist, with a generous little "salad" of red and green jalapenos, scallions, and cilantro. A hefty portion of wings for the price, too. Gnocchi were great—reminded me a little of the gnudi at the Spotted Pig—and the entrees were really tasty too.
I don't think they have a full-blown dessert menu yet, so you get a complimentary dessert at the end of the meal. It was Earl Grey gelato yesterday.
Small beverage menu with some well-priced bottles and glasses of wine, cocktails, and cheap beer.
I was surprised that I haven't really heard much about this place. They don't seem to have a huge PR machine, but it was well worth the stop.
