Uncle Boons - new Thai restaurant in Nolita headed by two Per Se vets

Heard about the new Thai restaurant "Uncle Boons" earlier today from a fellow foodie. It's headed by Matt Danzer and Ann Redding who met while they were cooking at Per Se.

I had the Khao Soi Kaa Kai... a Northern Style Golden Curry with Egg Noodles, Chicken Leg, Pickled Mustard Greens and Coconut Milk for $20. It was absolutely fantastic!

Has anyone else been yet?

Pretty excited about this place. How is it versus Pok Pok?

        good question.

my take is that uncle boons has pretty skimpy portions for about 2x the price as what you'd pay at pok pok. and i barely liked a few of the dishes i had at uncle boons.

pok pok has skimpy portions as well but they are 1/2 the price as uncle boons. i like the food more at pok pok than uncle boons but dont care for the radios and institutional feel of the place.

id rather go to my places in queens and eat much better thai for 1/2 the price of pok pok...or at least 30% less at least.

Uncle Boon's has the best Khao Soi in the city, including Queens. I like it much better than Pok Pok.
