La Portena - Price Range

What are the prices like at La Portena, the Argentinian steakhouse in Queens?

  1. You will probably spend $30-50 per person. I would recommend La Fusta over La Portena if you are looking for a Latin American steakhouse in Queens. I find the meat at La Portena is oversalted for my taste and sometimes too funky and not in a Peter Luger's aged porterhouse type of way.

check out chivito de oro and gauchito, while you're considering...

La Esquina Criolla, across the street from El Gauchito, is my absolute favorite. Happy to recommend, never mind the wait line. :-)

Agree with Pookipichu: La Fusta is better than La Protena meat-wise, but the latter is not a slouch either as long as you order right (gotta be selective); the price range of La Portena was closer to $30 than to 50, in my past experience.

i think the steaks themselves are definitely better at la fusta -- in terms of meat quality and care of preparation. but most of the other items -- appetizers, sides, organ meats, pastas -- are much better at la portena. the latter has a great salad for two and a good variety of interesting apps to round out a meal. a good wine selection, too, if that matters.
