My guess is a "natural flavoring" made with all natural chemicals

Not that there is anything wrong with that

Don't know admittedly, but, because it is the last ingredient, perhaps it is not so important.

Thanks to all who replied. So can I leave it out?

I'm a little confused...the link took me to a site selling pomegranate balsamic vinegar...

I have used pomegranate molasses, which is a thick, sweet and sour syrup. Delicious!

Regarding any confusion that may be lingering, I believe the OP (LuluTheMagnificent) wants to create/recreate the pomegranate balsamic vinegar and was wondering what pomegranate essence is, since it is on the list of ingredients.

As to what pomegranate essence is, I have no idea. My best guess would be a flavoring or maybe some concentrated pomegranate juice?

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't really look at the details...

I don't know. But here is my guess. We know "Pomegranate Essence" cannot be the pomegranate juice since we already have the juice as the first ingredients. My guess is that "Pomegranate Essence" is the solid pomegranate particles (fibers..seeds...etc) ground to very fine size.

I did some searches. It does seem like my guess may not be far off. Again, these are not proofs. They do suggest that essence can be used to refer the seeds:

"Among the many reasons pomegranate seed extract (Punica granatum linn) is now hailed as an “elixir of youth” is its high content of the remarkable nutrient that bears this exotic super-fruit’s Latin genus name: punicic acid"

"Pomegranate molasses gets to fruit's essence ... Pomegranate molasses, sometimes called pomegranate concentrate, is a viscous, treacly syrup made from cooked-down pomegranate seeds"

Since the most health beneficial part of a pomegranate is its seeds, and the seeds are not in the juice, I am not surprised that the pomegranate essence refers to the extracted seeds.
