LAT just posted this review/report: http://www.latimes.com/features/food/...
Looks like they've been around for a year, oldest Yelp review from July 2012, but only 3 reviews on Yelp.
Wow. This looks like it has the potential to be my new favorite place. Im an uni fanatic.
OH, yeah, you just that article too.
It looks like it might be decent.
But I highly doubt Mori or Shunji will lose any sleep over it. :)
OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!
"OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!"
SMM (Social Media Mantra)? I'll just call it transcendental omphaloskepsis...
Sorry, that's my Pavlovian reaction to Uni.
Me too (sorry) for my knee jerk (little knee but mostly jerk) reaction to that particular text speak...
I bought large grade A uni from their factory back in 2009 for $45. It was really really good.
Does anyone know if the uni they sell at this Gardna location is better than what can get up in the wooden trays at, say, Nijiya or Mitsuwa?
Trying to figure out if it's worth the trip.
YES! 'Nuff said
Sgee: the photo on the left is pure food porn. Beautiful stuff. The photo on the right is curious -- uni with an amazing color. Where is that uni from? Anyway, thanks for these great photos.
The uni in the picture on the right is from the same tray as the pic on the left. I forget which pic has the correct color.... SoCal coast uni from Maruhide.
Last bits ended up in pasta...
Oh, my, the money shot. Well-prepared uni pasta is so fantastic. This photo looks like a very good dish of it. Thanks for the peek at it, Sgee.
What's the black bits - Truffles or Nori?
Looks like truffles! Wow.
Black winter truffles I had on hand at that time.
So, let's talk pricing. As someone else has inquired below...is the pricing better than a big Japanese grocery? Just curious. Want to gear up for some uni pasta this weekend!
Comparable $ but quality @ Maruhide is superior.
