Tanpopo is still fantastic

Had some great Ramen and Udon there two nights ago. Their sesame flavored spinach app is also pretty darn good. The Tempura tastes clean.

I also really like the room.

    Are they open for lunch?

Nope. 5 pm - 9 pm most days.

I absolutely love Tanpopo and it has never lost its charm over many years. However, I referred a friend who said the service was atrocious when he tried to go and ended up not eating there (after being seated, waited 30 minutes for service and couldn't get anyone's attention). Anyone else had this experience?

Thankfully, I haven't experienced that. Curious: How is that even possible? There are only about 10 small tables in a wide-open space within full view of the kitchen itself.

I'd say the service is slow, but 30 minutes without anyone attending me is not something I've experienced in 5 or more visits to Tanpopo starting with their original location on Selby.

My most recent visit, it looked like two people were serving the room and three were in the kitchen. They are very deliberate. So things can take a while.

We ordered appetizers and added beers when we realized that 80% of the tables were full and had arrived before us and did not have food. We got the apps and beers reasonably soon. Took a while (20 minutes?) for the food, but I don't mind waiting for good food prepared to order.
