ISO apricots in bulk for jam

williej Jun 12, 2013 08:00 PM

I plan to make apricot jam this summer so where can I get a good quality apricot in bulk at a good price (ie better than what they sell them in smaller quantities)? Can I get BC apricots here somewhere or something from the States?

I used to make this jam in the West so it was easy to get BC apricots. Haven't found the same sources here. So hoping someone can tell me where and when I can find good quality fruit (best is 'just' or 'almost' ripe).

Thanks for any tips.

Sami fruit has them for 99 cents a pound. They're not the best looking specimens and some are quite soft but for jam they would be great.

There are several locations but I go to the one in Laval on Daniel Johnson.

I'd wait till they are in season and go to the Marché Jean-Talon and look for them, to make jam you don't need visually perfect fruits so it'll be cheaper

Any idea when the season is for them to appear at the market? Where do they come from?

Season is in July/August and September.

I don't know if there are producers in Québec; I think most of them come from Ontario (same thing for peaches).

I don't know either about quebec ones but in season i'd hit either Sami Fruit or Supermarché PA.
