Masterchef 6/12

chicgail Jun 12, 2013 05:12 PM

Worship of Walmart groceries. Really? It's good to be a corporate giant with big bucks to spend strategically.

Do you think viewers buy the hype?

  1. C. Hamster Jun 14, 2013 03:44 PM

They did the Wal Mart crap last season too for awhile.

With the same Walmart commercial of them at a famous steak house switching out the dry aged steaks for Walmart cello-wrapped meat. To the customers' delight!

    Yeah sure.

And how would you like to finish your expensive meal with a deceivingly delicious hot cupo' instant coffee?

    2. JuniorBalloon Jun 14, 2013 03:03 PM

It's become Master Hell Chef. They are getting 6 million or so viewers. I don't know if that's great, but it is in the top for the night. Only Criminal Minds, CSI and Hockey had more viewers and not by much, so I guess it's working for them

I end up seeing bits and pieces as there's nothing else on. I invariably end up cursing and turning off the tv.

I'm really hating the WalMart stuff. Notice how it's Joe and Graham who do the shilling? I can't recall Gordon spouting all of the advertising hype.

Didn't like Luca staying in the 2nd hour - should have been Kathy staying. Then again, he *did* win the Mystery Box challenge, so maybe that's partially why he was kept. But Kathy gets to potentially get a job @ Gordon's NY restaurant.

Disliking Natasha more and more and more. And can't say enough about Joe B. yelling and getting in the contestant's faces and smashing plates. Come on. Just let them COOK and don't be asshats with stupid dead-stare looks when tasting.

I wanted Kathy to stay as well.
She had spunk and attitude. I would have liked to see her go further. And she deserved to stay. Luca couldn't even cook a Burgr. Common on

And such a weird finish. She didn't seem interested in a job at all and they walked off with her standing there.

I didn't get the impression it was a job offer. More of a stop by sometime and see how a real kitchen works. Maybe get a reference.

It may be I just assumed, since they'd done that before. I had to go poking around and didn't find anything definitive. Kathy's Facebook page says she's started a catering business in NY, but only says "we'll see" if he "keeps his promise".

Interesting though: she posted this picture of the early finalists and is asked about a guy in an armband. She responds he's "Nick, who quit". Did I miss that?

OKay, went back and watched the first audition of this series looking for the mysterious missing Nick from St. Paul.... and realized that in the opening on the first episode there is a big spoiler. (not going to say who is left here). But it shows Paula Deen driving up on a tractor and there are five contestants left. Even though it is a long shot at least 3 of the 5 are clearly recognizable, and the other two are guessworthy. Why show? Why? Anyway, don't go look on Hulu if you don't want to know.

Is it wrong I'm thinking about asking techno nerd BF to go and enhance the video still so i can figure out who #5 is? I know who I want it to be, and the general size seems to fit..... but it also fits several other balls still bouncing around in the game.

I have a strong suspicion about second from left. And a strong disappointment about my suspicion as to second from right. Hope I'm wrong. hehe

1 , 3, and 4 (from the left) are obvious. 2 I have a guess and if I'm right, much like Nikkihwood I am disappointed because I'm pretty sure it isn't the person I expected to win the whole thing. At first I was unsure on 5, but on closer look I'm 95% sure. Haven't had the BF try to enhance it yet but I'm sure I will soon. With more and more people DVRing shows as well as having them all up on HULU to watch on demand whenever, you'd think they would be more careful on those early episodes.

LOL that depends on whether you think it would spoil it for you or not. It won't tell you the winner, but the results are pretty surprising. Or at least they were surprising for me. At least one was no surprise at all to me.

I was trying to figure out the mysterious 2nd from the left on the laptop... just realized I can use hulu on the BF's really freakin' ridonkulously sized HD TV. If that doesn't tell me who it is nothing will.

From left to right, 1,4 and 5 are very obvious.

3 I have a very good guess about.

After reviewing still photos I have come to a final decision about who #2 is now.

The editing monkeys pretty much wiped all trace of him out of the show, but if you find his photo online, then freeze up the 20 after they were selected you can find him. (Yes I counted them 20.) He looks a like like Jordan but if you freeze a few frames you can pick him out. Very weird.

I agree with the Producer Manipulation hypothesis. Plus, gotta keep Natasha of the Eyebrows (they're just weirdly drawn) and Krissy the Yeller <rolling my own eyeballs here>. Truly, Krissy's schtick in the auditions was her son--how proud of her actions/language is she, with her son watching the broadcast?

                        Ridiculous episode and season.

I did watch last season and thought it was barely watchable. The cooking was okay, the canned BS was the issue.

I guess the average viewer is different than me because they took the BS to the extreme level and moved the cooking down quite a few notches to where they are making burgers and poached eggs with very little time spent on showing the cooking and with near a near two hour show you think they would actually show you some cooking

I fell asleep watching the last episode
After this last episode, I'm done. Erased from the DVR
I can fall asleep to better shows!

What a *coincidence* they had that extra burger challenge all ready to go like that. How would they have known from the beginning that they would be torn between four people to eliminate? That's not really fair to the other contestants that these ones got two chances to stay in the game.

I knew they were going to keep Natasha in the game, she's the trouble maker drama queen of the season. They will keep her all the way up to the end just for ratings.

So Lynn, the Asian guy, has been picked first by his fellow contestants, twice, so he clearly has skills. And yet he has no speaking parts, we never see his food, we barely see him. This show definitely has gotten completely off track, even for a staged reality show.

I have a feeling he'll eventually get screen time. This happens all the time the quiet skilled one never gets screen time in the beginning because there are too many dramatic loud mouths still in the competition.

I never understood the "Master Chef" title and why there are so many "Home Cooks"

I don't think you have to be a home cook to win, I think they like promoting that to get people to come out to the auditions.

So Lynn and Jessie would not be considered home cooks.

This show has lost all the panache it had in the first season- where it was truly about the cooking and watching real home chefs evolve. Now it's neither about the cooking nor the passionate cooks. It's about drama, drama and overhyped drama. There is not one redeeming quality to any of it.

And I wish they would stop assuming that the viewers are idiots. Please show us that the contestants have some "coaching" before the challenges- because if you've never made eggs benedict before- you're not going to magically know how to make it now- same with butter poached lobster. Personally, I've never made butter poached lobster, and I wouldn't have known to season the butter. Like someone else said, this show is quickly falling to the lows of Hell's Kitchen. Gordon, Joe, Graham- we are not donkeys or dodos, please treat your viewing public with a little more respect. Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen.

Amen. There was some talk on a related post recently about contestants receiving recipes. They MUST be given some guidance for dishes they just "magically" create, never having done so before.

This show is losing me. Too long for too little return, manufactured drama, all the usual non-reality reality show schtick.

The pacing of this week was dreadful. The pacing I've become accustomed to was episode 1 - team challenge + elimination round, episode 2 - mystery box + elimination round. However, this week you had team challenge followed by essentially 3 elimination rounds.

In general, this has never been my favorite show but moderately watchable. But these two episodes didn't work well together.

Also, they were off-duty, and maybe the first response equipment was not being used? I live in a small town, and we have several rigs ready to go. Also, it's not like they can't pull those rigs off the shot if needed. Probably in the contract, legally.

I forget her name, but when they were showing the one cook saying that she makes eggs benedict all the time..I told my daughter watch she goes home. She did badly. The whole second hour was a waste. I think they should have sent Luca home as the other girl was starting to blossom more.
