Finding myself in Hendersonville on Friday night, and need a good place for dinner in town, prefer with wine, no barbecue or meat and three, eat anything at all, medium priced or about $15-20 per main course. Don't want to go to Asheville or Saluda. Ethnic is fine. Can anyone here help please?

When contributors take time to make recommendations, I always try to report back. However, got an invited to a friend's house for Friday night so no motel, and no dinner in town. BUT I saved the suggestions and thank everyone who chimed in. Next year! (I do the annual street antique show in Hville so it will most likely be next June till I'm back in town)

We didn't get to eat there, but I hung out with a chef/owner at Hubba Hubba BBQ just before Memorial Day. I really liked the place and the Chowpup got to check out the chickens. We got there for the Thurs farmer's market but the restaurant had closed (longer hours didn't start til the wk after).

We enjoyed the pizza place, but we were picking up a pie on the way back from Asheville and were blown away that they closed at 9 on a Sat night. Sleepy town of retirees, I guess.

Lime Leaf Thai, Champa, and Thai Spice are all good for the area, in my experience; Mezzaluna and West First do great pizza, pasta & good meat-centric mains; Never Blue is a tapas-y place with an interesting, eclectic menu.

Thanks so much, just what I needed. Thai sounds awfully good right now!

Hope it hits the spot! We were in the area not long ago, and enjoyed every meal we had.

I would do Lime Leaf over the other Thai choices, but that's just me. None are bad.

But I would choose West First over any of them unless you need Thai. just depends on what you are in the mood for. Everything on WF's menu is great. Their pizzas are more "gourmet" toppings and thin crust and all are great, but all their entrees are excellent too. wines by the glass are decent choices and reasonable. lively atmosphere. There will be a wait on a Friday, but it goes fast, don't let it deter you. We also love Never Blue but for drinks I would recommend going with any of the margaritas or sangrias over wine - housemade and delicious. Pricier but worth it. WF and NB are around the corner from each other, so you can look and decide.

We like Mezzaluna too, but West First is similar and I think it's much better.

If you like sushi, Umi at the other end of Main is the best in town (IMO).

agreed. West First is head and shoulders above anything else in Hendersonville.
