traveling to New Haven, CT

My 2 daughters and I are planning a roadtrip to Yale next week. The youngest is looking at colleges. We will be driving up from Atlanta and I wanted to make sure we hit some authentic CT food while we were up there.

What are some local places to get authentic food in New Have or along the 95?

  1. Pepe's Pizza for White Clam Pizza

    Louis Lunch for Hamburgers

    Lucibello's for Italian Pastry

    Libbys for Italian Ice

Tre Scalini for higher end Italian food.

    Claire's Corner Copia for Vegetarian/Vegan

That's a start. I'm sure others will chime in with more suggestions.

awesome the oldest daughter is a vegitarian so Claire's is a good suggestion.

Stowe's in West Haven for CT lobster rolls and fried seafood, Super Duper Weenie in Fairfield for hot dogs, BAR and Sally's are great options for pizza as well (I enjoy the mashed potato and bacon at BAR), Skappo or L'Orcio for Italian. Ibiza is great for Spanish and Prime 16 has excellent burgers, craft beer, and fried pickles, but those aren't as uniquely CT as the other choices.

Thali is good for vegetarians (and everyone else) as well

      2. On the way to New Haven:
Super Duper Weenie or Rawley's Hot Dogs in Fairfield both good.

        In New Haven:
Lenny & Joe's on the water for fried seafood/lobster rolls

I like Pepe's (get there before they open)

Also enjoy Dim sum on sat & Sun at Great Wall on Whitney.

The Anchor is super cool and has been around forever...jody foster used to frequent as a yalie.

Recently did not enjoy Ibiza. Spendy and not nearly as good as they think they are, I enjoyed barcelona much more and it's absolutely gorgeous inside.

        Archie Moore's for wings ...

Archie Moore.s has great burgers & sandwiches as well....Not that close to Yale though.

I wouldn't recommend Archie Moore's to someone who is only in town for a short time. They have that same type of passable bar food everywhere in the country.

And it has been there forever. It was my neighborhood bar back in the 70's.

        2. Caseus
          Soul de Cuba
Miya Japanese Restaurant (really interesting sushi—vegetarian options)
          Zinc and Kitchen Zinc
