In your experience, what sprouts fastest?

I planted amaranth two days ago. It's up already. I've never grown it before and am not too sure what to do with it - I got the seeds for free at a festival. But hey! it sure likes to grow!

For me, wild arugula. 48, maybe 72 hours tops, and I have sprouts popping up after broadcasting.

amaranth was an unwanted guest in our garden.... we had to dig up almost half of our plantings. the stuff grows like... well, weeds. and the stalks are insanely strong.

Wow, interesting. Did you eat any of it? That's what I'm planning to do, either stir-fried or as part of a curry (those are the ideas I've found online).

no... i pull it up wherever it sprouts... i'm not looking to grow it, as i don't have room on my plot for that.

Oh. Well, if you happen to pull up a nice-size bunch one of these days, I have it on good authority that you can throw it into a pan and saute it with some garlic, ginger, soy sauce and hot pepper and have yourself an excellent side dish.

This is what's been missing from my gardening experience - speed trials. Maybe I'll race sunflowers against radishes against amaranth.

Radishes always sprout very quickly in my neck of the woods.

That's very quick. Sunflowers sprout about that fast too I find.
