ISO Boston Cream Pie in RDU Triangle

  • 9

Do you know of a bakery 'round these parts what makes a good Boston Cream Pie? Cary/Apex, Chapel Hill, Durham preferred.

Thanks!

  1. What makes for a good Boston cream pie? I've made my own as they aren't hard to make and are essentially an eclair in cake form.

Oh, I'm not a connoisseur of BCP by any means. I wanted one for a friend who is moving to Boston and didn't want a grocery store frozen Sara Lee kind of thing.

I suppose I could look up a recipe and make one myself. But I thought I'd ask if anybody knows of a trusted local baker who makes them.

Sugarland makes Boston Cream Pie cupcakes - you could probably order a big cake from them. But yeah, they are pretty easy to make.

I have a feeling that you can get one at Southern Season. I'm pretty sure Whole Foods has them as well. The thing about BCP at least if making them at home is that they are probably best the same day or very next day. I'm doing the same thing for a friend moving in July.

Call Weaver St. I bet the bakery does them & I second Sugarland, I've enjoyed those cupcakes.

      2. I've had Boston Cream Cupcakes at Whole Foods, so it is very possible they make a whole one for you. I liked the cupcakes a lot.

        1. And if you need recipes well I can supply a few.

          1. Madhatter's makes one, but the filling is more cream cheese flavored than custard. I don't recommend it. I have enjoyed the one at Wellspring in the past. I suspect that daisy cakes will make one if requested.

            1. Blue Moon Bakery in downtown Cary makes one. I haven't tried it but I've had other cakes from there that were lovely.
