Montreal dining for foodies with kids update

  • 1

Just wanted to give everyone updates to the several threads that have already been on here. We went Memorial day weekend up from Boston with a 9 yr old and a very fussy, argumentative 6 yr old girl. As mentioned, Au Pied de Cochon was a no brainer.. kids loved it, we went on the early side (6p) because that was the only time left. All of the tables around us (4 other tables) had kids of various ages, from about 1.5 years old to 9 yrs old. It's loud anyway. Worked out great, no issues, great food. Kids are spoiled considering the first time I had foie gras I was probably in college.

Anyway, the more interesting update is that we went to Le Chasse et Peche. There were mixed opinions on dress code and the like, but I read at least one post somewhere on google that said they had brought kids there without a problem. So after much agonizing (and inability to get other reservations) we decided to chance it. I'm glad we did. We went on the early side, at open (6pm). The wait staff was great, the kids were entertained by all the statues and objects they had scattered about the dining room. The chef made some homemade pasta for my 6 yr old daughter (which was awesome, with just butter) and my 9 yr old ordered off the menu (overkill, but I considered it part of the price I had to pay if I wanted to go out to eat). Everything was spot on. In addition, the table beside us also brought their ~7 yr old kid without any problems.

I highly recommend people with kids to not be put off by "Not good for kids" labels on Tripadvisor, etc. Just use common sense. If the place is overly formal, then yea, kids are probably not a good idea. But other than that, its probably going to be fine. I can at least attest that Le Chasse was great with the kids.

  1. That's a nice update and good to hear. It reminds me that I went to Maison Publique awhile ago with a 9 year old and a 7 year old as well as some adults and we all had a great time and ate well. My boys have always enjoyed APDC as well. And fussy and argumentative is entirely correct for 6 years old, hey? Glad she enjoyed her pasta.
