The General Tso in the Toronto

Indianguy Jun 6, 2013 06:03 AM

Yes? Hi!

We wanted to know who is making the best General Tso in the Toronto. We had the good place but they did the closing.

    yes. hi!

szechuan szechuan make it taste of the best. we like the banker place over the wonderland place. it is best than others because of the light coating and the sauce not starch. dry chili is nice spicy, not parmaggedon spicy, or thai spicy but is still the good.

Omg how can I forget Szechuan Szechuan in Vaughan.
Yes! Go there. A little more upscale than typical Chinese cuisine....good service too.

                  BIG +1 for Swatow.

Can't get enough of their GT Chicken. It's the touch of orange in it.

                    Edit :

Had GT Chicken from Swatow again today. Very tasty as always, but at almost $14 for a modest order and $9 for some greens, "I be making my best GT at some different good place".

The Swatow guys need to give their head (instead of our wallets) a good shake.

What's the deal with literally every Chinese restaurant charging 7-10 dollars for a plate of greens? I understand food markup and that running a restaurant is not cheap but it's hard to justify paying that for a plate of limp Chinese broccoli that they probably bought from some dude around the corner for literal pennies

The lesson as always is just stick to the deep fried meat in sugar sauce.

Curious- does anyone recommend any other places in Chinatown for General Tso, besides Swatow?

With this reponse, I sort of answer the question to thread as well as yours direclty.

I only go to one place for chinese food and always get the same thing. It's more in old china town on dundas. It's "hung shing"

(they actually have a website but it doesn't seem to work anymore. In a panic I just called them to make sure they didn't go belly up...lol

I always get both general tso and sweat and sour pork and mow on it over two or 3 days. I love their stuff.

I might have to give shecwan shecwan a whirl with all the talk about and I live so close.

That's how die hard I am about hong shing, I live in vaughan and drive all the way downtown to get it. I usually go on a sunday night late or something when there's no traffic.

don't know if you picked up on this but I got the spelling wrong. It's actually called "hong shing"

Its on Erin Mills between Mississauga Rd and Thomas on the east side. Its in the same plaza as No Frills and Wendy's. I went there recently... Its clear they precook everything and then throw it into a wok before serving. Its not the best but its pretty good and priced at GTA East levels

I got delivery from Szechuan Gourmet in North York a few weeks back. Big fan of their rendition of General Tso.

Had a pretty good version at Judy's in Times Square, and it was less than $9.
