What are some of the worst conceived burgers in Manhattan?

There's lots of great burger in the city -- and I mean *lots* -- but there are also a fair share of really ill-conceived burger.

My vote goes to the DB Burger at DB Bistro. It's just wrong on so many levels. First, it's too big (vertically speaking). Second, I don't want foie gras *in* my burger, or even on it, or even around it. Third, what the hell is black truffle doing in there, and this is on top of the foie. And lastly that bun was greasy like those Sizzlers cheesebreads.

Bad go all around.

And, oh yeah, it's like over $30.

Do you have a contender?

Have you had the DB Burger?

If you say "no" I don't blame you. If I had to pay $30+ for a burger, I too would be like, no fucking way.

I have had it and liked it. And I agree with @Monica, "there are good burgers and ok burgers...I don't think I ever had a bad burger."

You've never had one of those frozen patties that come a couple dozen to a plastic bag have you?

        1. re: Humbucker

haha, I've had those..with some extra condiments like ketchup and pickles, they are still ok to me.

"You've never had one of those frozen patties that come a couple dozen to a plastic bag have you?"

Not from a restaurant. No. At my brother's house? Yes. And again, like @ Monica said, "with some extra condiments like ketchup and pickles, they are still ok to me."

        2. The '21' Club burger is well conceived, no foie gras or truffles, $32. Includes fries.

What's funny is that 21 Club uses(or used to) frozen pre cut fries too. ha. But their regulars don't care.

            1. re: Monica

That's cuz no one really goes to the 21 for the food.

well, frozen versus fresh fries don't really have much to do with the quality of a burger.

              1. re: Veggo

That's good to know. Will put that on my checklist for lunch.

Their nice touch is the pat of tarragon butter in the middle.

                  1. re: Veggo

Oh no, that's sort of a deal-breaker for me.

Butter is sort of the reason Minetta Tavern's burger is never high on my list.

For that price, maybe you could ask them to substitute margarine.

                      1. re: Veggo

Or maybe foie gras, on the side, to take back to CA.

              2. Agree on the DB burger. Had it years ago. The burger itself was dense and dry. The foie was too dark, overdone. The whole thing was difficult to eat and I found it odd to have a messy, ill conceived dish at an upscale, expensive restaurant. An overpriced conceit. I also don't understand fried onion rings on a burger, usually along with too many other components. The rings get soggy and usually fall out anyway. Have em on the side. Julia Child made a burger a while back in which she blended in sour cream. Was juicy and tasty.

                1. dont you dare disrespect the cheese bread at Sizzler. delish

I'm with you on that one. More like Danny boy dissing the Sizzler cheesebread by using a cheap facsimile to make a burger.

                  2. pop burger is pretty bad for a burger focused place. some pub and diner burgers can be bad too but that;s to be expected

                      Good to know.

I've always been tempted by their tater tots. Those any good?
