Nathan Phillips Square Farmers Market opened today

Weekly farmers market started today with about ten or so vendors. Lots of asparagus, strawberries and rhubarb, but also mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, bell peppers, cheese (Montforte), bread, butter tarts.

  1. Thanks for the info midtowngirl!

    1. Was very excited to.. picked up asparagus and rhubarb.

      1. Lots more on offer now we're in July. Spotted today: raspberries, blueberries, apricots, cherries, more choices of leafy greens, zuchinni, beets, new potatoes and my personal fav - the first peaches & cream corn.

During July & August there's also live music and food vendors. Burgers, peameal bacon on a bun, curry, jerk, corn and a new one this year - gourmet hot dogs. I settled on one of Mrs. Pondicherry's murtabaks for lunch today so will have to try a hot dog next week.

I got two. One for lunch and second for a snack later.

        2. Does anyone know if Ontario field strawberries are still available at this or any other farmer's market? I wanted to make some jam this weekend.

I did buy some strawberries last Wednesday, but they weren't as tasty as the ones I got earlier in the season.

It's the ever-bearing variety now.. they aren't quite as nice, but I think would be fine for jam..

There were still strawberries today, but as rstuart notes the ever bearing variety. New this week: sugar plums and peaches.
