old man can't think

I plan to take some of my students out for beer or cocktails and dinner to celebrate the end of the year. I'd prefer to be outside and relatively quiet, so we can converse comfortably.

Cantina Mayahuel, Shakespeare's, and Station Tavern come to mind. Any other suggestions?

(Not O'Briens. They're not the only game in town any more vis-a-vis craft beer, and the food is ugggh.)

Geography: Golden Hill through Claremont; the Pacific through the 15.

Jayne's Gastropub has a really nice patio in the back where you could reserve the large table. Food is good and the cocktails are getting better over the last few months

Second Jayne's. I love their patio and their food. Can't speak much on the cocktails, but it's an excellent choice. Street parking can be a challenge, depending on what time you go.

I haven't been to Counterpoint since the chef change but I enjoyed the food there and the tap list was really good. (Golden Hill). I don't remember it being noisy, and there is a front patio area.

I'm not sure how their food is these days, but the Public House La Jolla might fit the bill (but it can be a pain to drive there, given the timing).
