$1.25 Prime Rib at Lawry's The Prime Rib on June 11: Happy 75th Anniversary!

wienermobile Jun 3, 2013 08:51 AM

Pay the 1938 price of just $1.25 for a "Lawry cut" Prime Rib served table-side and accompanied with horseradish, mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and their Spinning Bowl salad. Tuesday June 11th only from 11am-3pm How long do you think this line will be?

  1. Servorg Jun 3, 2013 09:12 AM

Somewhere about the length of a ticket line for a Beatles reunion tour (if it were still possible)?

Are they taking reservations for this, do you know?

I guess I'll just wait in line.

Given that my Time is worthless.

I'll be there to battle it out.. i figure.. at worst.. i wait awhile while I hang out with friends and decide on another place nearby

I called and tried to make reservations, they said no for that day.

For everyone that doesn't want to stand in line on June 11th Lawry's is having a month long JUNE special, a three-course dinner for $75 per couple, plus tax & gratuity.
        Original Spinning Bowl Salad
Special 8 oz. Cut of Roasted Prime Ribs of Beef Mashed Potatoes & Yorkshire Pudding
        - or - Fresh Salmon & Seasonal Vegetables
        Chef's Special 75th Anniversary Dessert

Still a good deal and it's only $72.50 more than the June 11th special.

The local Houston news reported the line is just west of town on I-10. I've driven LA-Houston by myself, I guess I can walk Houston-LA. Hope they don't run out.

The line will be silly long...doing it for the challenge and fun, if that's your bag, may be worth it.

Question: How will people tip? On current value, or will they just leave a quarter??? While I'm sure that Lawry's is anticipating people drinking and ordering deserts, I think most people will just have ice water.

                Sounds good.

And probably only a 24 hr line.

The line started at 2:30 am this morning

                    Thanks for the update.

                  2. blimpbinge Jun 11, 2013 03:30 PM

I arrived there at about 9:30AM. Saw that the line was wrapped around the building and heard from the crowd that people have been lining up since 2:30AM.. I was ready to just leave.. when my friends convinced me to just stay n wait it out since we drove to the west side (from 626) already.

Waited from 930 to 12:30pm.. which is very long. As in, if you're trying to compare the amt of time you spend waiting... to the discount you're getting.. its probably not worth it.

But! time flies when you're with great company! They were nice enough to pass out bottles of water for all those waiting, had decent crowd/line management, and passed out bracelets to make sure people didn't cut. Though there were still a few shameless folk that straight up cut in line before and after the bracelet.

Because my group was small (3 ppl), we were seated next to some obnoxious college kids, but maybe I felt they were obnoxious because I was standing outside and hungry for too long. I'm still not a fan of their communal dining, so when I go, I try to go in larger groups.

Got the spinning salad, lawry's cut prime rib, yorkshire pudding and mashed potatoes. The salad and cut of meat were both good, as usual. They were also giving away every other bone (do they normally do this?) unfortunately, I was in between and didn't get a piece with the bone in. sigh..

Anyways, great experience today, and hope to go to their future events... but earlier..

No "line" photo? How did you tip?

                        bonus pics!

The line basically went from their door and circled half way around the block. I got in line somewhere at the midway point (in the 500's).. though the line moved surprisingly fast.

There were numerous news vans (?) that covered the anniversary. I was worried they'd skip my bracelet so i just stayed put, so i didn't get to see

We tipped assuming it was full price.

Saw the carrera gt on the way back to the parking lot (we were in a rush so we just parked where we could).

                          Thanks Blimp.

From your trip report, the experience does not seem to be all bad.

A 2.5 hour wait is much better than a 12 hour wait if you ask me.

slight correction, it was a 3hr wait. but it went by really quick tbh.

they still have the anniversary promo that was posted above. not the same deal, but still cheaper than normal!

In the past, they've been good about getting larger cuts. When I went for dineLA, I asked, and was able to get a larger cut (beef bowl) of prime rib for a few extra bucks.

                        That receipt looks good too.

I guess maybe should have gone that is if I had friends already waiting in line for me.

                        Thanks man.

Can you sit at the bar/counter and get a meal at Lawry's?

I know you can get potato chips!

Lawry's has Swedish meatballs? Did Ikea take them over? I've never seen them on the dinner menu. Is it a bar food deal only?

My bad. It's there to be served in the bar only with the potato chips.

They might not serve it anymore though.

They still serve them & the meatballs in the lobby while you wait to be seated and yes they are free.
