Sbraga or Vernick?
Tough choice, so I guess that means you can't go wrong either way!
We were just at Vernick last night, and everything was fantastic. Great service from Alicia. The only thing I didn't like is the extremely high noise level upstairs. The back room downstairs is much better, and I love sitting at the chef's counter and chatting with Chef Greg.
After sharing a bunch of toasts and small plates, we finished up with the whole roast chicken. And I have to say it was one of the best birds I've had in Philly (see photo).
Also, if you've never had them, try the Island Creek oysters on the half shell (from Boston). In my mind, these are the best oysters you can get in the US (and Per Se just happens to agree!). Only $15/half-dozen.
I think you have an easier time getting a table at Sbraga. Foodwise, I though Vernick was very good, and seating beside the window is fabulous. It is small, and quite loud but doing some really nice food. I like the small plates there better than the larger plates, and they have a very nice by the glass wine selection.
