Does anyone know if the Singapore Kosher Vegetarian Restaurant on Race Street has closed? Their number has been disconnected.

  1. I don't know. In fact, I have never been there. I will check it out tomorrow. I will be there tomorrow.

    Is it any good?

It was recommended to me. And I've had this kind of food at Buddhist temples before and it can be really good. Thanks for checking it out! the last online review is for late april so it just seems strange that the phone is now disconnected.

New Harmony around the corner serves the same kind of food (lots of mock versions of meat dishes). If you just want good veg Chinese though, and not mock meat, I think that Su Xing at 15th and Sansom is much better.

I just came back. The restaurant was closed, and it has a sign which states that they are on vacation. The sign also has the owner's number for people who want to contact him. I thought about writing it down, but it seems more like an emergency contact.

Thanks for checking it out, ChemK!. That was really great of you to check. Looks like we'll have to try New Harmony (thanks barryg for the rec! and yes, I happen to like the mock meat -- but only when it's chinese style ;-)).

No problem, I was close by anyway so it really only took me 10-20 seconds :)

I like mock meat too, but I have not had them for a long time (6+ years). Maybe it is time for me to try them again. If you happened to like New Harmony, then please let me know as I may want to try it.

      2. Any new news on this? Happy Cow online is reporting they've closed and one reviewer on yelp said the same. But, another person posted a yelp review on the same day as the person saying Singapore had closed, so it is hard to know what's accurate. Thanks!

Yes, it is closed for sure. I was just there today in Chinatown. Apparently, "Red Kings" is opening another one: Red Kings 2. It is advertized to be focused on Szechuan cuisine.

This actually makes no sense to me. The first Red Kings does not seem to do all that great. Even if business is good and you want to expand, you don't usually expand to a store 50 feet from the original one.

Thanks for confirming. I'm sad to hear this. I used to be a regular at Singapore, though the combination of a few less-than-good meals and a move out of the city has made me someone who only gets there a handful of times a year. Oh well.
