It is my husband's birthday next weekend and he loves dark chocolate (not white, and not so much milk choc). I would like a really wonderful birthday cake for him. Need bakery to be in NW DC or Southern MD (Cleveland Park through Bethesda area preferably). Thanks!

I don't know if this is the best but Balducci's has a great dark chocolate cake with a ganache frosting they call a Dolly Sin cake. Very rich. I believe their is one in Bethesda.

I think the cakes at Firehook are delicious and I believe there is one in Cleveland Park. They have a double chocolate cake which is out of this world!

Baked and Wired (Georgetown) sells any of their cupcake flavors as regular cakes - they have one that's called the chocolate of doom or something similar, that would work perfectly.

call them, order it, and make sure you have some milk to wash it down!

Too late for now, but for next year- I really like Society Fair's chocolate cake, and Randolph Patisserie has a really good chocolate mousse cake that me and a few of my major chocolate fiend friends really like.
