We are looking forward to a nice evening at our local (Sugar Land) favorite, Cafe Natalie. If we were "going into town", we would go to Mark's. Where are y'all planning (or hoping) to go?

Home. I plan on making some ravioli's stuffed with chanterelles mushrooms in a sage butter sauce. Split a prime grade rib eye from the Meat Shop in Austin and red velvet cake for dessert.

Our favorite for Valentine's Day is Lynn's, up on Dairy Ashford, just south of I-10. That, and a bottle of Spottswoode is enough to make this old married couple feel downright young again.

We live just north of Sugar Land, but aren't familiar with Cafe Natalie...what do you recommend?

Shrimp bisque, any beef dish, and creme brulee. But I've never had anything there that I didn't enjoy.

You will need reservations on a weekend night, but it's pretty quiet on weeknights. The service can be slow, but the food is very good and the atmosphere pleasant. On weekend nights and at lunch, owner Eddie Bandak is usually there, and he is a cordial host who always makes diners feel welcome. The level of service drops off some when he's not there, though it doesn't seem to hurt the quality of the food.

Try it for lunch too, if you have a chance--great hand-patted burgers served on big crusty rolls, and some things you don't usually see on a limited lunch menu, like veal piccata and beef Stroganov. For a while they were having monthly vintner's dinners, a terrific deal at $35 per person, but I haven't heard anything about that lately.

Cafe Natalie is at 6350 Hwy 90A (at
Ellis Creek Blvd.), in the New Territory area of Sugar Land.
