What's your favorite tiki bar out of the less than half a dozen that are still standing in LA ?

Though I do believe in the past few years there has been a resurgence.

Once mixology is a thing of the past, tiki drinks might be back in style ?

  1. I rather like Damon's Steakhouse in Glendale. Way old school tiki bar & steakhouse. They make awesome super strong drinks. I rather prefer the Chi chi.

The original tiny little Damon's , the one that was torn down along with much of the old Glendale downtown to build the Glendale Galleria (now itself defunct of course), still glows brightly in my mind as the Platonic ideal of a Tiki bar, maybe the Platonic ideal of any bar.

I didn't know that =) Makes me sad that I never went to it.

is Tiki Ti still around?! awesome! I used to go there in the early 90's! about as good a way-back machine as the (non-tiki) Dresden Room before that damn movie ruined it.

Yes still around and still making those potent mai tais

I gotta call my friend Amy who introduced me. we are talking about the same place right? about the size of a Volkswagen bug? rotten service and stiff drinks? I may be wrong on all counts, but I was a weekender down from SF and usually drunk.

Yes, same little place on Sunset

                  http://www.tiki-ti.com/pages/home.html A classic...maybe "The" classic Tikki bar.

Let's see if the inside look via Google works (if my linking is actually good):

        2. Tonga Hut in North Hollywood.

            yelp review states:
"Gotta drive to a so-so neighborhood, but once inside, it's another world. Fab drinks and you can bring in food from outside."

            NICE
