Fresh - Highlands
Has anyone been here? What is the general consensus? I believe they are open; I am surprised there is not more mention. I have not been but would like to try.
I went there once with my wife a few weeks ago. As you probably know, it is a smaller place in highlands that is BYOB. From the outside is quite unassuming.
The decor is nice inside and it's a pretty cozy atmosphere. I could see it being kind of crammed if it was filled but that weekday night there were only 3 tables later in the evening.
To start, the waitress was outstanding and very friendly. Another gentleman there was spot on with fresh bread hot out of the oven (served with olive oil.) And they even brought a second round out quickly after I devoured the first basket. I love good bread so this was great news.
I didn't get any apps and opted to get a NY strip steak. It was a pretty good steak but to be perfectly honestly, I eat steaks all over the country (and world.) It was good but didn't blow me away. For 27 or so dollars, I'd give it a B- rating. Again, a quality steak but I have some high steak standards. I have spots with better steaks locally but I am glad I went here. I would like to get back to try the lobster mac and cheese. I should have opted for a NON steak dinner. I just love steak so much and sometimes I should just bite the bullet and get something else. The wife's red snapper was also a decent dish.
Overall, its a cool little spot that I would like to try again. I am not dying to get back but I will someday. I do like to support the local smaller restaurants. They seem to put a lot of effort to make you feel comfortable and apparently place a lot of emphasis on locally sourced items.
If the proprietor ever reads this, I would strongly recommend trying some type of advertising like those local coupon books. That will get people in the door since not that many people drive down into the highlands, let alone see this small establishment.
Any word on when the trattoria is coming back? (if they are)
yeah I think I might have to hit the new place up soon. I hit CC this weekend and was tempted to go but I backed out. My guess is that it will be just a mediocre place with nothing to draw people back. Hopefully I am wrong. There are so many places I need to get to. I have a list of about a dozen I need to try. Speaking of that topic, I went to Drews the other night for the first time. I'll bet you can guess what I had for dinner? LOL
re: corvette johnny
How was CC? Last time I was there on a Sat. the place was suspiciously half empty. I do like their strip steak, but I prefer it without that rub.
I went to Mihms about 6-9 months ago, and it was just average at best. I know the place was on the market at that time, so I'm hoping the chef, now owner, was perhaps sandbagging the place to scoop it up cheap(er). I'll wait to hear your feedback!
Tell me more about Drew's, I hear so much about it I'm curious, but the curb appeal (or lack there of) has shunned me from trying it.
CC was good as usual....great steak. They have this new porkchop that has been on special for the last two weeks or so. My wife has gotten it twice. I really like it. It is rubbed down with spice like the steak.
I will post something on drews soon. I made the SAME mistake as usual. I got the NY strip when I should have gotten something "cajun" (which they specialize in.)
