Toro, still really good

I've been meaning to post this after my last couple visits to Toro... Toro, is in case anyone forgot, still really good. For my money there's no better value in Boston than our usual meal of pimientos del padron, serrano wrapped dates, the outrageously good paella valenciana and some churros for dessert. Wash it all down with a couple Brooklyn Summers while scraping the bottom of the paella pan with some bread and you've got a tremendous meal. Then again, we don't mind getting there at 4:30pm on a Saturday. I'm not sure I'd feel the same way if I had to wait a couple hours.

I usually enjoy the cocktails at Toro as well. Tried the Honey Badger (moonshine, honey, forget what else it had) from their boozy section on this last visit, and I was mildly disappointed. Was more fruity than boozy. That'll teach me to stick with beer.

  1. Second that! Toro is outstanding....

      1. I love it every time I eat there. Although most times I go they tell me it is a 2.5 hour wait, so I don't eat there most times.

        1. Excellent food. Possibly the most obnoxious, entitled crowd in Boston. Waiting brings out the worst in people. I wish Toro was open straight through the afternoon like Coppa to allow for a relaxed mid afternoon feast.

It is still a damned pleasant, stress-free lunch experience. In the evenings, I tend only to go solo now; it's the least painful, maybe the only way to get seated without enduring the scrum for too long.

4 of us hoping to eat there Friday, 11/15, for an early dinner. Do they close between lunch and 5:30 dinner? If we're there by 5:15, do you think we'll be able to snag a table?

I believe they do close between. If I'm not mistaken, the bar opens at 5 and the dining room at 5:30.

I'm fairly certain the bar opens at 4:30. If you get there at 5, it'll probably be full by that point.

Just called & recording says 4:30. Atho' they say dinner service begins at 5:30, is any food available at the bar at 4:30?

Not unless you consider cocktails food.

Lol. Where would you go as a backup plan, if we can't get a table? Haven't been down that end of Washington St in a while.

I think they might have a limited menu available in that brief window, cold things like tortilla espanola, olives, anchovies, cheese, almonds, etc.

Walkable alternatives that I like include Estragon, Teranga, Stella, Estelle's, Orinoco, El Centro, The Gallows, and Boston Chops.

            2. I still love it there too.
