Need a restaurant somewhere between Chili's and Gibson's...

I have visitors coming, which includes my 15 month old niece. We want to have a "nice" dinner, but we want somewhere casual enough to bring a toddler.

I would also like to stick to Chicago-exclusive restaurants instead of chains. The location isn't super important, but I was thinking Lincoln Park, Lakeview, maybe Wicker Park, etc. Maybe Lincoln Square, but I live in that area, so it'd be nice to venture out. Probably American food would be best, but I'm open to other ideas. Thanks!

Went to Little Goat last night and it was fabulous. American diner food with an upscale twist. Family friendly, casual. In West Loop which I think has a vibrant fun vibe for out of towners.

Southport Grocery and Café is appropriate. I know they've only been serving breakfast and lunch, but starting June 7 they will be offering dinner too.

La Gondola or Melanthios in Lakeview are both family friendly. If you want something a little fancier, the Lobby at the Pen is also good. I've seen several kids playing in the area when I dined there before and no one seems to mind. Where are they coming from?

My Lincoln Square go-to is Fork, but that might be too familiar for you.
