graduation dinner for 11, close to Red Line

catwood May 21, 2013 12:42 PM

Hi - new member here. I'm trying to make a last-minute reservation for a graduation dinner for 11 people on the 30th and, predictably, most places are full. So I'd really appreciate a list of recs for places that
1) are within walking distance of any Red Line T station EDIT: no further south than Downtown Crossing, actually
2) have entrees below $30 (low 20s preferable)
3) serve decent food in a passably nice atmosphere
5) might possibly have an opening (i.e. nowhere too hip and hoppin'.)
I realize this is a pretty specific set of criteria, but I am fairly desperate and would be grateful for any help!

Are there places that fit these criteria that you've already ruled out (because they're full)?

Yup, mostly places around Harvard Square (Grafton St, Russell House Tavern, Sandrine's, Henrietta's Table, Temple Bar) and a few others (Tupelo, Rendezvous). I feel like I'll have better luck either in Boston or nearer Somerville, although I'm new to the area so I'm not sure...

      Welcome to Chowhound!

Also, do you really mean "any" Red Line station? Would your party go out to Dorchester? Quincy?

Thanks! Yeah, I really should have specified because I'd prefer not to go any further south than Downtown Crossing. :)

yes, wondering if you're considering chinatown and/or dorchester

probably not, 'any red line t stop' was a bit of a misnomer on my part... I'll go back and edit the original post

I agree w/ Posto. And my default is The Burren, though that's a longshot.

In Davis Square, maybe Foundry or Saloon?

In Central/Kendall Square, maybe Cuchi Cuchi or Area 4?

Green Street in Central, East Coast Grill in Inman, and Cambridge Brewing Company in Kendall(ish) might work.

Hey guys! Thanks for all your recs, you know your stuff & I look forward to trying as many of these places as I can in the future. I ended up securing a reservation at Green Street for 6:00. Woohoo!

Great! Please report back after the event. It's really helpful to hear how things go. Welcome to chowhound, by the way!

If you would consider staying on the train for 15 more minutes, I suggest Tavolo in Dorchester next to the Ashmont T station.
