Downtown Atlanta Report

Had a brief visit to downtown; stayed at the Omni at CNN/GWCC. Walked to Lunacy Black Market one night. It was still light out going and coming...not sure I'd make the walk in the dark. Once there, I loved this place! Very funky vibe, which may put off some people. Thriftstore furniture, menu written on cardboard, etc. Food is tapas or small plates style. I had an excellent caprese salad, a chicken leg in a curry-type sauce and a balsamic vinegar/mint pork rib dish that was outstanding. Desert was a turtle cupcake with chocolate mousse icing that was also delicious. Had a very interesting white Rioja to drink that was also excellent.
Had lunch one day at "Just Around The Corner" a tiny little diner-like place on Marietta Street. Great burger! Wonderful little place.
The next night I went to White Oak Kitchen and had a total disppointment. Probably the worst service experience I've ever had in a restaurant, and I am ususally very forgiving. I arrived about 6:30 and the place was not what I'd call busy. Maybe 8 people at the bar, most outside table (8 0f 10) filled and no more than 10 to 20% of inside tables filled. It took a good 10 minutes for the bartender to greet me. I had to ask for a beverage list, and no food menu was offered. I ordered a beer, which I wanted to drink before I ordered food anyway, so I thought, well i'll just ask for a menu in a few minutes when the bartender checks back. Despite the bar nearly emptying out, and my repeated attempts to get his attention, he never returned. I couldn't believe it. Finally at 7:30 I left some cash for the beer and left. A huge disppointment, as the online menu looked great and I was so excited to try this place. Maybe I'll try again some time, but I will certainly know to be very aggressive in seeking service.
