Spoilage - Strange Case Or?

Several weeks ago I 'lost' a bag (the light veg type in self-serve markets) of 2 small Zucchini in vestibule of apartment - I found them yesterday (it had fallen behind something).

Ambient temperature was about 20degC the whole time. One Zucchini had turned TOTALLY into water and mush. The other - when rinsed was 'perfect' - I sliced it and still like 'new.'

Clearly am puzzled. -- ?

      no - both from same bin at store -

      forgot to mention - no sign of any mold

      Seriously, if one were against the floor and the other not, it would alter air circulation/bag breathability and temp.

        no - they were pretty much in exactly same position

      2. If one of them had surface damage (a nick or scrape) and the other didn't, there could be a big difference in decomposition rate.

          possible - but as only bought 2 I looked them over carefully before selecting

          I just don't get it -- ?

            Well they all looked beautifully fresh and firm 3 weeks prior to my 'losing' them. The 2 I took from bin were really the same as the ones I left behind - so wasn't a 'mixed bag' type of bin.
