A&L Market near City Hall for well-priced Asian ingredients on the west side of Vancouver
Prolly old news but I'd never noticed this place, bang up against the entrance to the Cambie Skytrain station on Broadway. Solid selection of "exotic" canned and packaged stuff, especially Filipino items, and the prices struck me as very reasonable. I got a large bag of pepper leaves for $1.50. If you need yam leaves, they have them too :-). My favourite fish sauce, the one with the squid on it, was $2.19 for the large bottle.
Lots of frozen items as well, including Thai tea ice cream and avocado ice cream, the latter of which came home with me. They're in the chest freezer over on the east wall.
Myriad bagged snack options as well including my fave "vegetarian" chicharrones.
Worth a stop and very handy if you happen to be taking transit.
Thank you for posting this, Grayelf. I was in the neighbourhood so I checked out this store yesterday. I'd always thought it was a small greengrocer. I picked up a tub of organic coconut oil ($7.99) and some Asian staples at very good prices. I've never tried chicharrones, but maybe next visit. ;)
