What's chow-worthy in Clayton, NC?

TerryG May 16, 2013 04:08 PM

I have an appointment next week in Clayton. I'm totally unfamiliar with that area of the Triangle. Checking here, I found recommendations for Lucky Chicken, Jeme's Downtown Cafe, and El Sabor de Oaxaca. But... Looks like ALL are closed. Sad tale of the small independent restaurant.

So, what are my alternatives for a nice, non-chain lunch (no Pizza, please!) in Clayton or nearby.

I don't recall but if you search through some of Greg Cox's reviews you may find something.

I would recommend SKYLINES CAFE located in Southern Village S/C on Rt.70 in Clayton.
Open for both lunch and dinner. Seasonal menu, great food , pleasant atmosphere. Nice people.

Thanks. This sounds like the right place.

McCalls BBQ and Seafood (lunch buffet starting at 11) on Business Rt 70 might be worth a look--most of the reviews on Yelp are pretty good (original location also in Goldsboro) Haven't eaten there myself, although I intended to one day while driving through the area (coincidentally 15 minutes before the plane crashed in their parking lot--long story)
