Hi. I'm looking for a quiet restaurant where one can easily hear a discussion. Any kind of food okay. Would love really good ambiance. Thanks. Lita

I think you just described Tocqueville, one of my favorite places. Great food, beautiful room, excellent service. Great for conversation.

Thanks all. I will forward all suggestions to my two dinner companions and let you know where we go, and how we find it. Again, thanks! Lita

Private Dining Room at Gordon Ramsey (at the London Hotel).

Doesn't get much more quiet than that.

Conversation. No business. Actually have been to all restaurants recommended. Looking for something I haven't tried yet. Thanks. Lita

The quietest high end restaurant in NYC has to be Masa. I've been there when there were only 2 other customers the entire night. However, you are expected to eat the sushi as soon as it's presented in front of you, so I don't know how that works for your conversation.

Matter of semantic on my part I'm sure but do you need a place to have a conversation or discussion? Wasn't sure if you were looking for something more for a work type meeting as opposed to just casually speaking to one another.

If you are looking for a place for just casual speaking then Picholine would be a good choice but there are several other places that would also work and they run the gamut; Le Bernardin, The Modern (Dining Room), Eleven Madison Park, Jean George (Dining Room), Per Se, and many more but these are all fairly high end
