The Chef's Protege BBC

chris2269 May 15, 2013 01:03 AM

This series just started on BBC
Chefs Tom Kitchin, Theo Randall, and Michel Roux Jr ( I love Michel Roux Jr) Each chef chooses four promising culinary students to mentor and train, eventually eliminating them down to one they feel is strong enough to be their Protege. Then each chef's pick battle for the title against each other.
Very non drama (well people get emotional but no trash talk stuff) and all about food and technique.

Did not say what the prize was but I'm guessing actually to be taken on by that Chef.

First couple of episodes thus far are a bit slow for me, but I'm waiting for Roux's turn at picking before everyone goes head-to-head.

This premise sounds vaguely like the recent US disaster show, The Taste - so it'll be interesting to watch for a different kind of perspective on the notion of a mentor/team type challenge.

Nothing like the taste. the taste was like a game show.

Definitely nothing like The Taste. Kitchen, Randall and Roux are evaluating candidates put forward as "best of the litter" by cooking colleges.

Alas I watched the first episode but missed the last couple of days of this. Really enjoyed watching how Tom Kitchin handles the candidates. Thankfully there's Iplayer to help catch up.
