Mackinac Island Recommendations

  • 3

My wife and I have been there once, eating at The Grand's Woods restaurant and a steak restaurant/inn (can't recall name) across the street from that big yellow B&B just off the docks.

We liked the Woods, and will probably go back, but need another good choice. I just can't find a winner among all the internet reviews?

Any first-hand recommendations? Thanks

      1. The Woods is great and we highly recommend it. Probably the best meal we had during the trip.

Mackinac isn't exactly known for their fine cusine. That said we had a surprisingly good meal at the Yankee Rebel Tavern. We went in with zero expectations and it turned out to be good. The pot roast sliders were the real winner. Not gourmet cooking but very good bar food.

There is not one thing wrong with this description. I wish I knew *all* the places around here that had superior bar food. Not everything has to be gussied up to all heaven and back...doing one thing (or a few things) and doing them well? Bueno.

        2. another vote for the Woods....but it is spendy and it is on the west side of the island so you will need to have a bike or take the horse taxi. We enjoyed the bowling alley...the building used to be a playhouse for the mansion next door, Stone Cliff which also has a restaurant and a wonderful view.we always get cocktails there, and sit on the back porch
