Dang Butterscotch Rootbeer

Has anyone seen this soda in the Bay Area? Called a few places, but no luck. Shipping it from elsewhere is, of course, outrageously expensive.

  1. Wow, it sounds amazing. I've never heard of it, but now I'll be on the lookout here in L.A....

    1. Yup! It's at Monterey Deli in SF. Confirming the below post, I saw it two weeks ago:

It was part of an 80 root beer tasting I attended in SF two weekends ago, so I'm guessing you can find it elsewhere. Come to think of it, I think I might have seen it at the Fizzary in the Mission. Try also the candy store in Rockridge across from the Safeway.

Hyperbowler: Any chance of a report on that root beer tasting?

Did I miss a root beer tasting? Where was it? What was most popular?

          2. Bought it at the Fizzary about three months ago. Not sure if it's still there, but the proprietor is great about ordering stuff if you ask for it.

In LA, Galco's is always a good bet.

            1. in the north bay, just picked up a bottle at Harvest Market in Novato.

Wasn't going to go out of my way to get this, but being a Novatoan means I can't pass this up! Was this located along the back wall with the beers and such?

                1. re: Cindy

yes- refrigerated back wall, along with a lot of other really interesting sodas

              2. My hubby just had some last weekend at Draeger's in San Mateo.

                1. First time hearing of this but now very curious. Will keep my eyes open here on the EC.

                  1. They serve it at the Corner Store restaurant, corner of Geary and Masonic:

It caught my eye first thing when I saw it on the menu, but I was there for brunch and couldn't bring myself to order a wallopingly sweet soda that early in the day. Gonna have to give it a try one day though!

                    1. I got some today at Scotty's market in Terra Linda (San Rafael).

                      1. Found it today in Giovanni's in El Cerrito (which is a great little market in general, if you live in El Cerrito you should get your produce there and not at Giant Chain Supermarket). Not sure if it was always there; only noticed it because of this thread. Bought it, was $1.79. Not bad at all, the butterscotch is somewhat understated.

I just got another bottle and I no longer think the butterscotch understated. Probably the bottles were the same, so must be what I ate? I still like it though.

                        2. Ike's carries it, priced right.
Can second or third Fizzary carrying it as well.

The butterscotch-vanilla flavors are very strong, with more of a cream soda feel than a heavy root, sasperilla taste. If you like interesting root beers, this is a smooth, sweeter one with enough complexity that you'll notice different things as you make your way through the bottle. It definitely has it's own personality. I didn't find it overly sweet.
