My partner and I will be moving to Boston soon, so I'm sure this is the first of many questions. When we visited awhile back, we stumbled in to some great meal deals. We love excellent food, but moving will stretch our budget thin. So far, we've done cheap date night at Myers and Chang (Monday or Tuesday night, multi-course dinner for two for $40) and the Oishii lunch special ( $20 for a Kaiseki multi-course lunch.)
We're looking for more ideas along these lines: places that might usually be budget-busters that have great specials. (Although suggestions of places that are always inexpensive but wonderful are certainly welcome, too!)
Thanks for your help!
Certainly cheap all the time and great is Galleria Umberto on Hanover St in the North End. Across the street from Mike's Pastry, it is a cash only counter service place with great pizza (square Sicilian cheese slices only), arancini, panzarotti, and calzones. Most expensive thing on the menu is the spinach, sausage, and cheese calzone at $.75. 2 people can feast on lunch for under $20.
If you don't mind eating early or late, or on a specific night, you can get a lot of good deals. Ten Tables has a wednesday night prix fixe, Cognac Bistro has a 3 course for 20.12 before 6:30 on weeknights, Rendezous and several others have specials on various days and times (Sundays and Mondays tend to generate special prices). Even L'Espalier has a marvelous Monday wine dinner that is a bargain by most standards. I don't know one source that lists all of these but you'll find them by checking several sources and asking around.
