Have already garnered several good suggestions for our trip to Houston in December but I need 2 others I have been unable to find by searching through old posts. Would like a good bar-b-que place near I-10 (or easy to find from there) for lunch on a Saturday. Also, need a place for Christmas lunch-a great buffet with something to please everyone. If possible, how about a suggestion around the Galleria, or easy to get there from that area. Willing to splurge for Christmas. Are there any hotels with a special meal for that day? Thanks in advance. Sonya

Near I-10? Goode Company BBQ is right on I-10 (8911 Katy Freeway, also known as I-10)and is pretty good BBQ. Not the best in Houston but usually good enough for a BBQ "Fix". Thelma's, 1020 Live Oak (I-10 near Studemont exit) is good. A bit farther north of I-10 at 5903 Wheatly is William's Smoke House and one of best places in Houston, maybe best. Pizzatola's at 1703 Shepherd Drive is supposed to have great BBQ ribs but I did not care for their brisket. Too dry.

I second the comments on Goode Co.; it's better than average, not exceptional, but will be most convenient.

Thelma's is east of 59, on Lamar @ Live Oak, not off I-10, I think, unless she's opened a 2nd location! It's a relatively recent 'discovery;' I haven't been yet.

Williams is north of 610 North; go up T.C. Jester, it turns into Wheatley. Ribs are excellent. Service, however, can be agonizingly slow; don't go if you're in a rush.

Of course, Dozier's in Fulshear is just off I-10 (7 miles or so); okay, so its 30 minutes west of Houston proper, but you just said near I-10! In my estimation, the best in the area for ribs and brisket.

For convenient maps, go to b4-u-eat.com, type in the restaurant name, and they'll provide a link to a map. Also more reviews and options.

Pizzatola's (just off I-10 on Shepherd) does have excellent ribs and sausage. I didn't think the brisket was very good either. And I don't care for the sides. But the pork ribs are the best I've found in and around Houston proper.

Dozier's Meat Market is a bit of a drive, but worth it, IMO. It has a real country meat market atmosphere (because it is a real country meat market, I imagine) and the ribs and sausage are both great. I didn't find the brisket to be particularly good here either, but I may have just gotten a bad batch.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. Could still use a few for the Christmas Lunch question as Omni site only shows Sunday Brunch. Do they usually have a Christmas Lunch? This is the perfect area and their brunch gets good reviews. Need to feed a large group with different tastes and this seems to fit the bill.

Just a thought. I have relatives who swear by the holiday meals at Rotisserie for Beef and Bird, on Wilcrest south of I-10 in west Houston. I've never been, preferring to have holiday meals at home, but the restaurant has a good reputation. I think it's family style, as opposed to buffet. Reservations are necessary, I think, well in advance.

Got hungry thinking about it and went looking for a web site - link below. Looks like they're not doing anything special for Christmas (click on 'Events).
