Red Beans & Rice On Monday

I am new to town--moved here to write so am on an artist's budget. Still, I love good food. I know it is traditional to have cheap or even free red beans and rice on Mondays at certain bars and restaurants but can't find much via Google. Any suggestions for an impoverished chow hound?!

    1. Joey K's. 3001 Magazine. 504-891-0997. Neighborhood Cafe.

Very good and Inexpensive, served with sausage, catfish or pork chop.

      1. If you don't mind a drive to Metairie, you can't do much better than the gorgeously creamy red beans and rice from Martin Wine Cellar, with some grilled smoked sausage and cornbread to boot. I don't think it's more than 8-9 bucks, enough to leave you full for most of the rest of Monday.

        1. Not a bar, but $6.99 for rb&r at Cafe Reconcile.
Try Ted's Frostop at Calhoun & Claiborne or Sammy's Food Service on Elysian Fieds; both probably offer a Monday lunch special of rb&r at a modest price. Joey K's is under $10.

          Two Sisters on N Derbigny.....

          1. Igor's on St. Charles used to have free red beans and rice on Mondays after a certain time. Not sure if it's still the case, but worth checking out. Some of the best red beans I've had, actually, were from the takeout section of Dorignac's supermarket in Metairie. I like the red beans at Liuzza's too. Honestly, I haven't met many variations of red beans I haven't liked in this town.
