Need Balthazar-like recommendation for Sunday night

I'll be in NYC this weekend for a quick visit and forgot to make a reservation at Balthazar (for 3) for dinner Sunday night, and now I can't get the time my party wants (prime 8/8:30 pm). Ooops. Does anyone have suggestions for a place that is similar?

Thanks!

Look at: Pastis, Schillers, Cercle Rouge, Artisanal, Raoul's (sorta), Le Gigot, Cafe Cluny.

It is possible to even get 8pm reservations there right now?

Similar in cuisine or atmosphere, or both?

What about other Keith McNally restaurants?

            Morandi
            Minetta Tavern

Let's face it: if you can't get a reservation at Balthazar, there's NEVER going to be one available at Minetta.

Open Table showed nothing until 10:30 pm. But there is always a chance to get a table for the time the OP wanted by calling. It never hurts to try. I was just tossing out a few options to broaden the OP's search.

Plus, I had also forgotten it was Mother's Day.

Well, one reason I forgot it was Mother's Day is that my mom passed away in 1998. But it's the thought that counts! :)

Please, there's no way you would know! No offense taken at all.

Thanks. I felt i just had to say something. :)

Thanks for the suggestions! I decided on Le Gigot... I was there a long time ago when I lived in NYC, so I'm excited to go back!

              How about Calliope?

Problem is Mother's Day will make getting a reso any place nice tough.

I wasn't thrilled with food at Le Gigot on a recent visit. How about Artisanal or Cafe Luxembourg?
