Penang - Hawker Food with a View at Northam Beach Cafe

Northam Beach Cafe is more like a huge al fresco food centre overlooking the seas off Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah (Northam Road).

Fantastic variety of Penang hawker fare, plus international options like pizzas, pies and Arabic food. This evening, we tried:

- Penang 'sar hor fun': fried noodles smothered with a thick, eggy and very delicious pork and seafood sauce.

- 'Oh chien' or oyster omelette. Nice version here with large plump oysters. Delish with a dollop of the sweet chilli sauce served on the side.

- Some Syrian options: pita breads sandwiching delicious grilled chicken, shish tawook and Syrian-style fattoush salad.

  1. That's very interesting, klyeoh, the Syrian outlet. I always felt that Northam Beach Cafe's collection of stalls is more "international" than other food courts in that area, especially the ones lining Gurney Drive.

I like Mediterranean and Middle-eastern food, which is harder to find on Penang island where Chinese food dominates. I'll be checking this one out this weekend.

Which is your favorite food court around that area?
