gotham vs. park avenue spring
Looking for a good place for a birthday dinner. would be interested to know which one of these spots has:
1. the best food
2. the least pretentious atmosphere
3. the most space (i.e. space between tables)...getting burned out on bumping elbows with people at adjacent tables.
thanks for any advice
My pick is for Park Avenue Spring. Food is excellent, nice service and spacious tables. Last time I dined at Gotham (probably about 12 years ago) was for my birthday. I arrived on time for a reservation that I had made a month prior. The hostess brought me to a table at the bar, and when I told her that I wanted a table in the main restaurant, her response was something like: "oh, I thought siting in the bar area would be more 'fun'". Maybe it would have been acceptable if I came in without a reservation, but for my birthday celebration sitting in a crowded and noisy bar area was about the last way I wanted to celebrate my birthday. I do remember that Gotham has a long bank of tables that felt more like one long communal table since the tables were too close. Food was fine. Nothing special enough to bring me back.
