Best Bi Bim Bap in the Annex/Koreatown

dlw88 May 8, 2013 07:48 AM

Just moving back to the city, and know some of my go-tos have closed down.

Who's doing Bi Bim Bap well, these days, and with a nice variety of banchan?

Have just about been to every place on that strip.

Would have to say for me, it's a tossup between Sunrise and Yummy. Sunrise seems to have been discovered by everyone these days, so Yummy is a good alternative where there is generally no wait

Not too long ago we had good banchan at Seor Ak San which is on Spadina south of College. Been meaning to go back.

Ka-Chi, which is fantastic!! I've only tried the Kensington location, but they're owned by the same people, so I understand, and the Bloor St location is supposed to be just as good!!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone like Owl of Minerva?

What is so special about it/why are there small line-ups at 2 am in the morning?

Haha, but so are other places, like Lim Ga Ne where I eventually had to end up eating!

I like Owl of Minerva but only for their pork bone soup. I think that's what most people go there for.

They only have about four things on the menu.

I always though so too at first, but they actually do have a large menu, just like other restaurants in the area.

However, food quality, even the pork bone soup, is very poor IMO.

I live right near there. Best in the hood is Tofu Village/House of Soon Tofu.

Haven't had the bibimbap, but IMO the best korean in Christie is Sunrise. I usually get the soondobu (so much better than buk chang), and spicy pork belly. army soup is good too.
