Dinner suggestions between Providence and Worcester

I'm meeting some co-workers for a send-off dinner before I go out on maternity leave. I live in Providence and they live in Worcester, so I'm trying to find somewhere nice to go for dinner that's somewhere in between. I like all cuisines, but I'm not particularly impressed with Italian. I also can't do sushi justice, seeing as I'm 9 months pregnant. I was thinking the Uxbridge area might make the most sense, but I'm open to suggestions!

Unfortunately, there's a huge void of nice restaurants between Providence and Worcester — especially if you're not interested in Italian. That seems to be the only cuisine Blackstone Valley folks like (well, there's fried seafood that's pretty good).

Alicante is your best bet. It's at least not pure Italian. The food and service are very good, and the location on the lake is great. Better ck to see if they'll take a reservation for your group, though, because it gets really busy.

I'll second Alicante. Good food, nice view. Right on Rte. 16 at Lake Nipmuc.

That area is a vast culinary desert, sorry! On the North Smithfield/Uxbridge line you'll find Pinelli's and Gia's....both heavy, gloppy Italian. In the same plaza as Pinelli's there is a now a hibachi place, nothing to write home about but passable. Nearby is the tavern at Blissful Meadows golf course, I haven't been in several years but it was fine, pretty standard pub food, big menu.

A little closer to Worcester is Blackstone Nat'l golf course ....decent restaurant, again, nothing to write home about.

As I was typing it dawned on me....there IS one good choice! Alicante in Mendon, Rt 16. Very good mediterrean food.
