Penang - 42 La Boheme, for the Best French pastries in Georgetown, if not Malaysia!
This cosy little French cafe in an old colonial townhouse in Georgetown serves up the *best* French pastries I'd ever tasted in Malaysia!! Whereas Singapore has Maison Kayser, Gontran Cherrier's Tiong Bahru Bakery and lately, Patisserie Paul (Ngee Ann City), I'd always been disappointed by the quality of baked goods in Malaysia - there is *none* in Kuala Lumpur which produces decent croissants or tarts.
But I stumbled upon this gem of a place during my recent trip to Georgetown, Penang. Run by a youngish French couple, the almond croissants, fresh out of the oven, tasted absolutely incredible!!!
Other luscious pastries I tried included a fabulous pear tart, and an rich, crunchy walnut tart. A cup of cafe au lait was all I needed for the best coffee break I'd had in a while.
