Penang - Pig's brain soup and stuff at Kampung Malabar
This popular night-time street-side food stall in Georgetown's old quarter reminded me of similar places in Bangkok's Chinatown near Thanon Yaowarat. Offering Chiuchow or Teochew-style pork porridge or soups, replete with pig's liver, kidney, heart, brain, intestines and all kinds of delicious offal. The pork broth was rich and tasty, murky from the high-heat boiling.
I opted for the pork offal with rice vermicelli ("bee hoon"/米粉 ) soup - absolutely delicious!

This famous pork porridge stall has 3 cooks - one of whom seemed to have gotten his inspiration from Jaime Oliver aka The Naked Chef ;-)
This stall is famous for their 'bak moi' or pork congee. Personally, I have to stay away from all this high cholesterol pig offal. At night, the kopitiam also has a good 'sar hor fun' stall which has very good business. But I find the kopitiam to be very warm, maybe because the way it is designed, the ventilation is not very good despite all the ceiling fans.
