Casual Japanese on Sunday evening stopover in Vancouver?

My flight lands at 4:30 pm Sunday and leaves at 10:40 pm same night. I estimate if I take transit to go downtown, I will be there from 6:00 to 8:30 for dinner. Where to go?

No Chinese since I would have had the best after one week in Hong Kong. Want something relaxing, casual, with comfy seats after our punishing 16 hour flight from Hong Kong and before a red-eye flight to Toronto.

I think casual Japanese might be our best bet? Any izakaya with comfy seats open on Sunday that doesn't involve a long wait?

  1. Hapa Izakaya is close to Waterfront Station/open Sunday-have never been so this isn't a personal recommendation.

    1. We completely enjoyed our dinner at Hapa Yaletown. 25 minutes from YVR to Yaletown/Roundhouse CanadaLine station... 5 minute walk to the restaurant. Seats were comfy enough. You could phone from the airport to check about availability.

      1. Given your grueling HK long flight and connection to TO, I'd recommend somewhere close to the airport, in Richmond (which you'd get to by Canada Line much faster), so you spend more time eating than on being the train & walking in downtown with your luggage. Within Richmond, Aberdeen & Lansdowne stations in particular are surrounded by a sea of restaurants, Japanese and others:

Maybe a bowl of ramen is good comfort food ?
