Rat meat sold as lamb in latest China food scandal
When I grew up, cane rat was a delicacy. Really quite good.
Also fairly common (but not as common as cane rat) was the giant pouched rat -- people would eat that one too, but I don't recall ever doing so myself.
An element of this is that some were trying to have rat meat considered a delicacy and were farming rats.
"Rat meat costs four times more than chicken or pork and twice that of beef"
Wow, this widens the door for counterfitters - wonder if anyone is trying to sell beef as rat?
That's the Bamboo Rat meat that is supposedly $$$$ and she has not established distribution.
Is it free range? Organic? I am sure it is BGH free, but what about RGH?
James Clavell's book King Rat immediately comes to mind. "They eat anything."
Not only rat, but fox and mink...you'd think marketing fox would get a better price than lamb.
