what's a good, casual, inexpensive Mexican place (BYOB?)

Hi, I'm looking for a Mexican restaurant as I describe in the title. Manhattan , either downtown or midtown, or somewhere along the 7 line in Queens. Somewhere I can bring a date. Not looking for anything fancy, but has to be comfortable. We're looking for something inexpensive and fun to do and w both love Mexican food. Even tacos, burritos, tamales and stuff like that. BYOB or beer/margaritas would be great. Thanks for your suggestions!

  1. For Queens, post to the Outer Boroughs board.

What's your price range, per person, before tax, tip, wine/drinks/beer? $20pp? $25pp?

    1. Noche Mexicana on 101 and Amsterdam. Great tamales and huaraches/chalupas and good other stuff, inexpensive and pleasant (slow service, however).

That's pretty far from "downtown or midtown"

I'd look into Barrio Chino on Broome - very young, hip place, great margaritas. Can be a bit crowded so there might be a short wait for a table, but it's fun. If they're really busy, Casa Mezcal is right around the corner, another good place, much bigger space so less likely to be packed.

      2. $20-$25 per person would be great.
